Gainesville, FL
Seven members of the Santa Fe Saints women's softball team were honored by the Citrus Conference and were named All-Citrus Conference North team.
Outfielders Madison Conway and Karris Rhine were both selected to the Citrus Conference North first team. Pitchers Ryleigh Bauer and Ryleigh Bennett joined them on the North first team and power hitter McKenzie Jewell rounds out the Saints selected to the first team. In addtion to the first team selections, the Saints also had infielder Tegan Grizzard and pitcher Belle Mancillas honored with second team Citrus Conference.
Madison Conway and McKenzie Jewell have battled all year for the top spot in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) for homeruns hit. They are currently tied for first in the FCSAA with 16 homers. None bigger than the early inning homer by Jewell against #6 Seminole on Tuesday that set up Conway's grand slam to give the Saints the walk off win. Conway has 60 RBI's on the year which is good for third in the FCSAA. Not to be outdone, Karris Rhine also has given the Saints multiple RBI's at 55 which is also in the top five in the FCSAA. Jewell has 47 RBI's. These three have been power hitters all year for the Saints and have had timely contributions in late innings.
The pitchers selected first team were no surprise for the Saints as Ryliegh Bennett recorded a 2.25 ERA and Ryleigh Bauer notched a 2.42 ERA on the year. Bauer has 106 strikeouts on the year. Both pitchers played well off each other all year and of course second team All-Citrus Conference North team selection Belle Mancillas also recorded a 2.63 ERA and between the three pitchers the Saints have over 200 strikeouts. Rounding out the selections for the Saints was Tegan Grizzard, an infielder, who boasted a slugging percentage of .455 and an on base percentage of .460. Grizzard is a base thief as she has stolen 35 bases which is good enough for 6th in the FCSAA.
The Saints season will continue next week at Clearwater for the FCSAA Division I Softball Championships where the Saints are seeded fifth and will take on the fourth seeded Seminole State Raiders at 7:00 PM at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Saints are 8-2 in the last ten games and knocked off Florida SouthWestern State #2 in the NJCAA poll.
