Alton Darling
Bio

Affectionately known as, “Coach” by the countless number of young people he has mentored in the Gainesville area for the last 18 years, Alton officially joined the Santa Fe College Athletics Program in the Spring of 2024 to serve as an in-house mental health counselor and liaison to the SF Counseling & Wellness Center. He has also worked at the college for the past 7 years as an adjunct professor teaching courses in Student Development & Leadership.

A born native of the area, Alton was a local standout at Gainesville High School in the early 2000’s as a member of back-to-back state championship teams in basketball and a two-time all-state receiver in football. After a brief stint on the Division-1 level, he went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science from the University of South Florida in 2007, his master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in 2015, and an education specialist degree (Ed.S.) in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Florida in 2024.

When not working, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends, reading and writing on personal development, and volunteering at charitable events within the Gainesville community. What he loves most about working with the young people at SF is passing along the hard-earned wisdom he has acquired over the years in life and in his own educational and professional pursuits, particularly with student-athletes in mind.
