Baseball Topped by St. Petersburg, 8-1
January 24, 2021
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - After suffering an extra-inning loss to Indian River State College earlier in the day, Santa Fe College baseball fell to St. Petersburg College by an 8-1 score at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Fla.
The Saints played their fourth game in the season's opening three days, facing the Titans for the first of three scheduled matchups in the 2021 season.
Starting pitcher Mitchell Gross threw four strong innings for the Saints' cause. Some defensive miscues proved to be too much for Santa Fe to overcome, however, while the offense produced just one run on five hits.
Wiggs' Words
"We have to continue to work to get better, especially defensively, and we have to be better strike throwers coming out of the bullpen," said Head Coach Johnny Wiggs.
"Those have been the two biggest disappointments. It's early and we are not going to panic, but we have to have a sense of urgency at practice to try and rectify these problems."
