Saints Lose In Extra Innings 4-5
Tifton, GA - On Tuesday afternoon, the Saints traveled to Tifton, Georgia to play a single game against the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions. Earlier this season, the Saints beat the Stallions 6-5 in a 10-inning game at home. The Saints fought hard against the Stallions in their second meeting in a 12-inning game to lose with a score of 4-5. The Santa Fe Saints are now 12-8 on the season.
How It Happened
Macklin Miller started on the mound for the Saints this afternoon. He played a total of 3.0 innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, and had four strikeouts. Marchelo Biondi followed him on the mound and pitched for 2.2 innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, and also had four strikeouts. Travis Mabin, Lucas Johns, Colby Rice, Nick Staszak, Anthony Scarpino also saw time on the mound for the Saints. The Saints pitchers had a total of fifteen strikeouts. AJ Barrios led the Saints in hits this afternoon with three.
The leading pitcher for the Stallions was J.R. Fordham, who pitched for 6.0 innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, and had twelve strikeouts. The leading hitter for the Stallions was Drew Rothschild with two hits.
Javier Soto and AJ Barrios hit back to back singles to start off the game in the first inning. Grant Gallagher hit a solo homerun in the top of the third inning to put the Saints on the board 1-0. BJ Graham hit a single in the top of the sixth inning and stole his way to second base. Wyatt Campbell scores off a grounder from Connor Fosnow to decrease the Stallions lead to 3-2. On the next play, Landon Rogers had a sacrifice hit to first, bringing home Cory Filey to tie the game 3-3. Javier Soto scored on a fielder's choice from Wyatt Campbell's single to put the Saints in the lead 4-3 in the top of the ninth. The Stallions scored one run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
Landon Rogers singled to center to touch base in the twelfth inning but the Saints could not covert. The game ended on a wild pitch scoring Quinten Rawls.
Overall, the Saints had a total of nine hits while the Stallions had six hits. The final score of this afternoon's game in Tifton was 5-4.

On Thursday, February 29, the Saints will host the Indian River State College Pioneers for a single game starting at 2:30 PM EST. The Pioneers will be back on Saturday for a double header to finish off the series.
