NJCAA Selects Peterson for Softball Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The NJCAA announced on Wednesday that Neely Peterson of Santa Fe Softball was chosen as the Division I Softball Player of the Week, after putting together five impressive outings during the week of April 5 - April 11.
Peterson's honor represents the second time this season that a member of SF Softball has received national recognition from the NJCAA, after Cris'Deona Beasley was selected as the Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17. Her name will now be added alongside Beasley's at the NJCAA Player of the Week Hub, which is included at the conclusion of this release.
Peterson, a sophomore catcher, has been voted as the NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week on two occasions and now adds the national award to her resume. She helped the Saints to a 3-2 record during the week, which included a win over No. 19 Seminole State College.
The catcher continued to swing a hot bat, and had 11 hits in her 16 at-bats for a .688 average. In a road sweep of FSCJ, she went 5-of-6 with two homers and nine RBI in the doubleheader. In total, Peterson contributed 11 RBI, five runs scored, three doubles, and three home runs.
Peterson is in the midst of a ten-game hitting streak, and is batting .366 on the season with a sizzling .475 mark in Mid-Florida Conference play. Her 29 RBI rank second on the team.
Additionally, Peterson currently ranks No. 6 in the FCSAA with ten home runs on the season, which leads the team.
