Softball Garners Six Mid-Florida Conference Awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe Softball (28-14, 14-7 MFC), who finished in second place in the Mid-Florida Conference standings, has received six Mid-Florida Conference postseason awards.
The Saints were rewarded with four First Team honorees in Taylor Barrett, Cris'Deona Beasley, Neely Peterson, and Grace Prom, while both Jayelyn Carter and Ashlyn Rogers were selected to the Second Team in their respective positions.
"All of these players are extremely deserving of All Mid-Florida Conference honors," said Head Coach Lindsay Fico. "I am very proud of their individual accomplishments on and off the field. They have led us coaches to our first State Tournament appearance and will continue to do great things far beyond Santa Fe. They represent themselves, their families, and this program with gratitude and respect."
Taylor Barrett, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Pitcher)
The Saint has recorded double-digit strikeouts in ten games, and her season-high was 15 K on March 25 in a complete game shutout, 1-0 victory at St. Johns River State College.
In her last outing, she pitched a two-hit shutout against Daytona State in game one of the teams' Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship. The shutout of Daytona State was her 12th complete game of the season from the circle. She struck out ten and walked just two in the 1-0 win, going on to be named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, April 27 after the prolific performance.
Cris'Deona Beasley, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Pitcher)
Beasley joined Barrett on the First Team as part of Santa Fe's primary pitching duo.
The sophomore from Live Oak, Fla. has appeared in 22 games, starting in 17 from the circle.
Neely Peterson, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Catcher)
The sophomore catcher from Wesley Chapel, Fla. claimed First Team All Mid-Florida Conference.
Peterson transferred to SF from Colorado State University and has made her impact felt for the Saints, both offensively in the batter's box and from behind the plate.
No. 13 was a two-time Region 8 Player of the Week, and also a one-time NJCAA Player of the Week (4/14).
Peterson carried a ten-game hitting streak from March 28 - April 13, and turned it up from the dish to hit for a .444 average during MFC play.
The catcher's solo home run proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against then No. 3 College of Central Florida, and she also had a walkoff hit against Pasco-Hernando State College on April 1.
Grace Prom, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Infielder)
Prom earned First Team All Mid-Florida Conference as a middle infielder.
Jayelyn Carter, Mid-Florida Conference Second Team (Outfielder)
The sophomore centerfielder from Gainesville claimed Second Team All Mid-Florida Conference.
Along with Prom, Carter has appeared in all 42 games for the Saints.
She has been a force at the top of the order. She leads SF in at-bats (134), hits (49), runs scored (32), and stolen bases (14) while hitting an efficient .366.
On 13 occasions, she has recorded multiple hits for the Saints' cause.
No. 19 was especially proficient in February, when she batted .531 in 32 at-bats.
Carter's speed in the outfield is an asset, and she has notched a perfect fielding percentage with 40 putouts and nine assists in her 49 chances.
Ashlyn Rogers, Mid-Florida Conference Second Team (Infielder)
Rogers was selected to the Second Team as an infielder, playing primarily at first base for SF.
The sophomore from Madison, Fla. played in 41-of-42 games for the Saints.
She hit for a .358 batting average with 44 hits, 27 RBI, and nine home runs in her 123 at-bats.
Roger's .650 slugging percentage is the second-highest mark on the team, and she has come through in the clutch on numerous occasions, particularly on the home field.
Seven of Roger's nine home runs have come at the SF Softball Field, where she hits for a sizzling .431 average and .810 slugging percentage.
None of her home runs were bigger than the sixth-inning, go-ahead and game-winning bomb in the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship against Daytona State, when she was able to exuberantly round the bases having made a key play to help advance the Saints to the FCSAA State Tournament.
