TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Santa Fe Softball, the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Champions and FCSAA State Tournament qualifiers, had three players earn FCSAA All-State/All-NJCAA Region 8 honors
Taylor Barrett, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Pitcher), FCSAA Second Team All-State (Pitcher)
Barrett, a hard-throwing right-handed freshman pitcher from Harmony, Fla., took home FCSAA Second Team All-State honors.
Leading up to the FCSAA State Tournament, Barrett led the SF pitching staff with 111.1 innings pitched, 179 strikeouts, and a 3.40 earned run average. She possessed a 13-6 record in her 24 appearances and 20 games started.
Additionally, Barrett came in at No. 4 in the NJCAA Division I in K/7 innings pitched (11.25) and No. 11 in total strikeouts (179), both tops in the FCSAA.
The Saint has recorded double-digit strikeouts in ten games, and her season-high was 15 K on March 25 in a complete game shutout, 1-0 victory at St. Johns River State College.
She pitched a two-hit shutout against Daytona State in game one of the teams' Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship. The shutout of Daytona State was her 12th complete game of the season from the circle. She struck out ten and walked just two in the 1-0 win, going on to be named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, April 27 after the prolific performance.
Neely Peterson, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Catcher), FCSAA Second Team All-State (Catcher)
The sophomore catcher from Wesley Chapel, Fla., a Mid-Florida Conference First Team selection, claimed the FCSAA Second Team distinction from behind the plate.
Peterson transferred to SF from Colorado State University and has made her impact felt for the Saints, both offensively in the batter's box and from behind the plate.
No. 13 was a two-time Region 8 Player of the Week, and also a one-time NJCAA Player of the Week (4/14).
Up to the FCSAA State Tournament, Peterson led SF in both home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.670), and ranked second on the team in RBI (30). She batted for a .339 average, typically from the heart of the order.
Peterson carried a ten-game hitting streak from March 28 - April 13, and turned it up from the dish to hit for a .444 average during MFC play.
The catcher's solo home run proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against then No. 3 College of Central Florida, and she also had a walkoff hit against Pasco-Hernando State College on April 1.
Grace Prom, Mid-Florida Conference First Team (Infielder), FCSAA Second Team All-State (Infielder)
Prom earned First Team All Mid-Florida Conference as a middle infielder, and now adds the Second Team All-State recognition to her resume.
The native of Lake Mary, Fla. has been reliable at or near the top of the batting order for the Saints, and is one of two players to have appeared in all 45 games this season
Over the course of the regular season and MFC Tournament, she led SF with a .380 batting average, 15 doubles, 20 walks, and .519 on-base percentage (No. 8 in the FCSAA). Prom ranked second on the team in runs scored (27) and hits (46) while totaling five home runs, one triple, and 24 RBI.
No. 16 enters is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak and batted .429 in April.
On the season, she has played a hand in turning five double-plays, and had the 6-3 assist to record the final out in the Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship.
