Saints Split With #16 Ranked Titans
Melbourne, FL- The Saints traveled down to the space coast to face the #16 ranked Eastern Florida State College. The Saints lost Game 1 7-5, but won 6-2 in Game 2.
How It Happened
Game 1
Despite an all-star caliber game from Ariana Wright, who hit two home runs along with three RBIs, the Saints were unable to pull out a victory over the #16 ranked NJCAA team in the country, the Eastern Florida Titans. The Saints had a total of nine hits lead by Karris Rhine, Sydney Fowler, and Ariana Wright with two hits each. Faith Campos and Jenna Borkey were the top two hitters for the Titans with two hits each.
The Titans jumped out in front early, scoring three runs in the first inning and added another two runs in the third inning. The Saints found a way to score when Ariana Wright hit a solo home run and Sydney Fowler hit an RBI double to score Juliann Smith in the top of the fourth.
Santa Fe was able to pick up a few more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but not enough to keep pace with Eastern Florida. The Saints drop Game 1 7-5.
Game 2
In Game 2 it would be the Saints with the quicker start. Kamaya Cohen tripled on a line drive to left field to allow Sydney Fowler to score the first run of the game. Alexis Daphney hit a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Kamaya Cohen to score and take a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, both teams were able to score a pair of runs to balance out the inning. In the top of the seventh inning, Ariana Wright hit her third home run of the day on a line drive to left field to score Sydney Fowler and increase the lead to 6-2.
The Santa Fe defense would keep the Titans at bay, preventing them from scoring for the rest of the game. Mallory Forrester pitched seven innings to earn the win for the Saints. She recorded five strikeouts, two walks, and one earned run.
Comments From Coach Savanah
"We did a really good job bouncing back from mistakes in Game 1, the girls came out aggressive and scored early. Mallory held us down in the circle and Ari led the charge offensively."
