Saints Fall Short To NJCAA #3 Florida Southwestern
Gainesville FL- On Saturday, the Saints softball team faced the NJCCA #3 ranked team Florida SouthWestern in a doubleheader. Despite outhitting the Bucs in Game 1 the Saints lose 6-3. The Bucs would also take Game 2 10-3.
How It Happened
Game 1
The Florida SouthWestern Bucs scored two runs in the first inning. Santa Fe would follow up the Bucs efforts with two runs of their own. Ariana Wright sparked the Saints' offense by hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sydney Fowler. Kamaya Cohen scored on an error to give the Saints their second score of the game.
Sydney Fowler led the Saints in hitting as she went 3-for-4 at the plate. Juliann Smith went 2-for-3 and Kamaya Cohen went 2-for-4 on the day to help the Saints outhit the Bucs nine to five.
The Bucs had their biggest inning in the fourth as they scored three runs to the Saints' zero. Both teams scored one run in the seventh inning. The final score was a 6-3 win for the Bucs.
Game 2
Santa Fe came gained control early on by getting the first three batters out and then scoring the first run of the game in the first inning. Madi Conway singled on a hard ground ball to right field to score Kamaya Cohen.
In the second inning, the Saints would score two runs. Ariana Wright singled on a line drive to right field to score Sydney Fowler and Anna Burnside and take a 3-0. The Bucs followed up the Saints runs with an eight-run inning of their own in the third. Kamaya Cohen caught the final out of the inning to stop the Bucs run.
The Bucs would go on to score two more runs putting the score at 10-3. This would be the final score of the game.
