Softball Beats Pasco-Hernando State College, 10-9 and 5-4
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe softball prevailed in two one-run games over nonconference opponent Pasco-Hernando State College on Thursday afternoon, 10-9 and 5-4.
GAME 1 – SF 10, PHSC 9
The Saints scored first and went ahead 2-0 in the first inning, with an RBI single from Adrianna Saavedra highlighting the at-bats.
Santa Fe's advantage grew to 6-0 in the third inning with four more runs. Brooke Hackim led off with a double, then came around to score later on a Pasco-Hernando error. With one runner on, Ashlyn Rogers barreled up and cleared the left field fence for a two-run shot,
making it 5-0. The sixth score came on an Abrianna Hickox solo home run in the next at-bat.
One more run handed the Saints a 7-0 lead after four innings of play, following a Calen Hayes RBI single that scored Morgan Lebeda.
Things got complicated for starter Taylor Barrett and the SF defense in the top of the sixth inning, and the Bobcats scored seven runs to stunningly tie it up.
Santa Fe countered to go in front 10-7 ended into the seventh. The Saints used four hits and a walk to score three, with RBI's coming off the bats of Rogers, Hickox, and Hayes with a double.
Pasco-Hernando scored two runs and had the tying runner on first in the seventh, but Cris'Deona Beasley entered to record the final out in one pitch for Santa Fe's 20th win of the season.
Key Statistics
The Saints totaled 15 hits, which came from eight different players. Rogers finished 3-of-4 with the home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Riley Schnyder, Hickox, Lebeda, Hayes, and Hackim each had two hits. Hayes, Hickox, and Saavedra recorded two RBI, with Hickox's home run the first of her season.
Barrett was the winning pitcher. She struck out eight of the first nine batters she faced and was perfect through four innings before the Bobcats started to bring some runs across. Barrett finished with 12 strikeouts and handed the ball to Beasley in the seventh, who got the save.
GAME 2 - SF 5, PHSC 4
The Saints went ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Grace Prom led off with a double before Jayelyn Carter connected with her first home run of the season. Santa Fe then went back-to-back for the second time on the day, as Story Giebeig belted a pitch over the fence.
The Bobcats scored a run in the second and three more in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. All of the Pasco-Hernando runs were produced via home runs, which included a go-ahead three-run shot in the fourth off Beasley.
Santa Fe tied it at 4-4 with a Giebeig RBI single in the fifth. Beasley posted zeros the rest of the way from in the circle, setting the stage for the Saint's bats in the bottom of the seventh.
The bats came through, as Carter led off with a bunt single, stole second, then advanced to third on a Giebeig double. NeelyPeterson made the most of her at-bat, and walked it off by lacing the first pitch that she saw into right field to plate Carter.
Key Statistics
Beasley improved to 10-3 with the win in the circle, conceding four runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk. She struck out seven Bobcats.
Giebeig came just a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-of-4 with a home run, double, run scored, and two RBI. Prom and Carter each had two hits and two runs scored in the first and second position in the batting order, respectively. Carter added a walk, stolen base, and had the two-run bomb. Peterson's walkoff hit was her first hit of the game in her four at-bats.

Santa Fe (21-10, 9-3 MFC) will play their next two doubleheaders on the road, beginning on Tuesday, April 6 at Florida State College at Jacksonville. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
