GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe College softball exploded offensively, scoring 35 runs in a Sophomore Day doubleheader sweep of Daytona State College.
The Saints beat the Falcons 22-3 in the opener, then 13-7 in Game 2.
GAME 1 – SF 22, DSC 3 (5 Inn.)
The Saints put up one of the program's best-ever offensive displays in this one, winning big in five innings with 15 hits and six home runs.
GAME-CHANGING PLAYS
After Daytona State went ahead 3-0 in the first inning, the Saints put up six in their first at-bats, highlighted by three home runs including a grand slam from Keeli Zingaro.
SF then scored 14 runs in the third inning, nearly setting the program-record for runs in a frame. The Saints had 15 in an inning against Highlands (Ill.) in 2007, a game in which the Saints scored 32 runs total.
The Saints went two times through the lineup, and Ariana Wright crushed each of her two home runs in the frame to highlight the extremely crooked number…
TEAM COMPARISON
SF had 15 hits to six for the Falcons.
All 22 of the Saints' runs were driven in. The Saints were also patient with pitches off the plate, walking on 13 occasions.
Nine of the SF hits went for extra-bases, while Daytona State had just one double.

GAME 2 – SF 13, DSC 7
The Saints' offense didn't slow down a bit in Game 2, scoring a run in all six innings.
GAME-CHANGING PLAYS
The Falcons led 7-6 headed to the bottom of the fifth, but four runs from SF handed the hosts the momentum over the final few innings to break away…
All four runs came across with two outs already recorded. Lily Garnett-Brown had an RBI single, and with the bases loaded, Riley Schnyder cleared them with a double before being thrown out stretching to get to third base.
Schnyder got the job done though, and three more runs in the sixth inning put the game out of reach.
TEAM COMPARISON
Each team had 14 hits, but the Falcons committed three defensive errors to just one for SF.
The Saints once again displayed much more power than the Falcons, totaling eight extra-base hits to just three for DSC. Wright, Fowler, and Abrianna Hickox cleared the fence with homers.
