The victory evened up the NJCAA #10 Saints Mid-Florida Conference record at 1-1, and improved them to 14-5 on the season.
"I'm really happy with the way Trent went out and threw first pitch strikes today," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. "He was consistently ahead in counts, and that gave him a chance to utilize his change-up, which was really on."
Nearly every one of the Santa Fe runs came in the second inning when the Saints exploded for eight runs on seven hits, all of them singles. Five different SF players picked up an RBI in the frame, led by Jared Shouppe's two RBI single that turned into a three run play when the CF center fielder attempted to cut down Nick Horvath at third and threw the ball into the dugout.
Santa Fe added an insurance run in the eighth, and Clint Duke pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win.
Chandler Rodriguez finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored, Tyler Kinney was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, and Shouppe was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 PM in Ocala to close out their three games series.
