Ocala, FL – Austin Goss went 8.2 innings on the mound and Chandler Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Santa Fe Saints took their second straight from the College of Central Florida, defeating the Patriots in Ocala 4-3. The win gives SF a 2-1 series lead over CF with one game to play later in the season.
Goss was dominant through the first seven innings of the game, scattering four hits while shutting out CF. The NJCAA nationally ranked #10 Saints (15-5, 2-1 MFC) scored all four of their runs in the top of the fifth on five hits. Catcher Matt Allen knocked in the first run of the inning with a RBI single, and Rodriguez followed with a 0-2 count, two RBI single to make it 3-0. Mike Castilla capped the scoring with a RBI single of his own for the 4-0 lead.
The Patriots got a run back in the eighth, their first run against the Saints pitching in 16 innings dating back to the eighth inning of their game last Wednesday.
Goss started the ninth inning but a walk and back to back doubles by the Patriots were finally enough to chase him from the game. Bryan Neal pitched to one batter and hit him, and Call Graham came in to close out the game to earn his third save of the season.
