Solid Pitching, Timely Hitting Lead to 8-3 Victory Over Lake Sumter
Leesburg, FL – Tom Watson was sharp yet again on the mound, and the Santa Fe offense picked up some timely hitting to give the Saints an 8-3 win over Mid-Florida Conference foe Lake Sumter State College on Monday in Leesburg. The win moves NJCAA #10/FCSAA #5 SF to 3-1 in MFC play and 16-5 overall.

Leesburg, FL – Tom Watson was sharp yet again on the mound, and the Santa Fe offense picked up some timely hitting to give the Saints an 8-3 win over Mid-Florida Conference foe Lake Sumter State College on Monday in Leesburg. The win moves NJCAA #10/FCSAA #5 SF to 3-1 in MFC play and 16-5 overall.
Watson (3-1) tossed seven innings and struck out 10 while walking just one. His ERA sits at a team best 1.27 in 42 innings pitched and six starts. Walker Burgess and Michael Ray each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the win.
Matt Allen doubled in the Saints first run of the game in the first inning, and the Saints added two more runs in the second, and another pair in the third to go ahead 5-1. The Lakers got a run back in the bottom of the third, but in the top of the third, red-hot Chandler Rodriguez singled in two runs, and Cole Parks squeezed in another to give SF back a solid cushion.
Lake Sumter scored one in the seventh, but the Saints pitching stopped them right there, shutting down the Laker offense for the 8-3 win.
Chandler Rodriguez continued his torrid streak, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Over the Saints three game winning streak, Rodriguez is 8-for-11 with four RBI and two runs scored. Jared Shouppe finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases, and Hugo Valdes was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
