Gainesville, FL – For the fifth start in a row Santa Fe starting pitcher Robert Girgis allowed two runs or less, this time shutting out Seminole State College over six strong innings to lead SF past the Raiders 8-2.
The Saints offense did what they couldn't do yesterday in Sanford, knocking in runners in scoring position.
Santa Fe started the scoring early, plating a run in the first, two in the second, four in the fourth, and an insurance run in the seventh.
The Raiders didn't score until the ninth inning. Santa Fe pitchers Girgis, Mitch Campion, and Colt Mink combined to allow just four Raider hits.
The SF offense pounded out 14 hits, including a 3-for-5, three RBI effort from Stephen Smith. Kyle Phillips was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Dillon Reed, Brandon Hernandez, and Wyatt Meisterhans had two hits each.
The Saints scored three of their five runs with two outs and also took advantage of four Seminole State errors.
The win moves NJCAA #15/FCSAA #3 SF to 25-9 overall and 8-3 in the Mid-Florida Conference, just behind St. John's River State at 11-3 in conference play.
The Saints and Raiders will play the rubber match of their three game series on Monday at 3:00 PM in Sanford. The two teams will meet for the final time this season on April 17 in Gainesville at 3:00 PM.
