Guthrie Commits to Florida Tech Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jacob Guthrie of Santa Fe College Baseball, an All Mid-Florida Conference Second Team honoree, has committed to continue his baseball career at Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla.
Guthrie is from Trenton, Florida and went to Trenton High School.
In his sophomore season, Guthrie was a designated hitter. He totaled 28 hits, 21 runs scored, and 20 RBI for the Saints. Guthrie held a .425 slugging average with two doubles and six home runs for the SF cause. In the game against South Florida College on Feb. 11, Guthrie had two home runs, and he hit three bombs in Mid-Florida Conference play.
Florida Tech's baseball team is coached by Jeff Tam. He became the head coach of the program in Dec. 2021 after being an assistant coach for three seasons. Before coming to Florida Tech, Tam was the head coach of Eastern Florida State College for seven seasons. He himself played for Florida State University and then went on to have a six-year career as a relief pitcher in the Major Leagues.
The Panthers are coming off a record of 23-26 this past season, and compete in the Sunshine State Conference of the NCAA Division II.
