Santa Fe Win Series Over Eastern Florida
Gainesville, FL- On Saturday, Santa Fe baseball took on Eastern Florida to wrap up a three-game series. The Saints took game one last Thursday with a final score of 8-6. Today the Saints would fail to score in game two as they would lose (0-1). In game three they played with a sense of urgency winning 16-6.
How It Happened
Game One (two of series)
Justin Jackson was the starting pitcher on the mound for the Saints. He pitched 7.0 full innings with only six hits, one earned run, and seven strikeouts. He led the defense keeping the shutting out the Titans in six of seven innings. The Titans utilized the duo of Anthony Cordero and Kenneth Robinson who pitched 6 innings and recorded seven strikeouts of his own.
Drake Harmon, Javier Soto, and Cory Filey each recorded one hit on the day for the Saints. Adrian Dominguez led all Titan batters going two for three at the plate. Hector Mangual, Leheim Bell, Jake Cooper, and Kevin Smith also recorded a hit.
The Titans put their first and only run of the game on the board in the 2nd inning when Luke Lambert hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Adrian Dominguez (1-0), Titans. Defense would be the main ingredient to sum up the remainder of the game as that would be the final score. The Titans shut out the Saints to take game two (1-0).
Game Two (three of series)
The Saints showed up with their bats in game two. They would record a total twelve hits in the game. The Titans recorded eight hits.
Javier Soto was the big story for the Saints at the plate. He went four for five with two homeruns and seven RBI's. Grant Gallagher also hit a homerun. Trey Freeman was perfect at the plate going two for two to help lead the Saints.
Leheim Lambert was three for four at the plate and Hector Mangual went two for two at the plate to lead all Titan batters.
A trio of pitchers: Colby Rice, Matthew Jenkins, and Nick Davidson all saw time on the mound for the Saints.
Santa Fe Saints scored a whopping six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Drake Harmon starting things off with a double, Javier Soto doubled, Cory Filey singled, Anthony Fimiano singled, Connor Fosnow doubled, and Trey Freeman tripled all in the first inning. Eastern would counter the Saints efforts by scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning (6-5, Saints).
The Saints would have their next big inning in the fourth. Thanks to homeruns from Javier Soto and Grant Gallagher they would go on to score an additional four runs.
In the 7th inning, the Saints lit of the scoreboard again by scoring an additional five runs. The final score was 16-6 with Santa Fe taking the game and the series.
