Avon Park, FL – Santa Fe sophomore pitcher Maddy Peres was in top form on Saturday against South Florida State College, pitching a no hitter against the Panthers for her third win of the season. She walked two, and the SF defense committed two errors, but neither proved costly as the Saints (5-6) needed just one run to pull out the 1-0 victory.
Sarah Ortiz was the difference maker on offense, knocking in the lone run of the game. The run was enough for Peres who struck out nine to stifle the Panthers offense.
The Santa Fe bats exploded for nine runs in the second game, highlighted by a grand slam from freshman Chelsea Malcolm, her second homerun of the season.
Although it took a while for the Saints to kick it in to gear, they unleashed in the seventh for eight runs on seven hits to break a 1-1 tie.
Kayla Taylor finished the game from there, pitching a scoreless seventh to pick up the win.
The Saints will be back at home on Sunday, February 22 against Palm Beach State College at 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Fans can follow along with live stats here.
