It's been a roller coaster season so far for the Santa Fe College softball team who won its first six games of the year but dropped five of its next six. On Tuesday the Saints got back to their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of Tallahassee Community College by scores of 2-0 and 11-6.
The Saints (9-5) won the opener 2-0 behind the outstanding pitching of sophomore Donnie Gobourne (3-3), a sophomore out of Lake Placid High School who threw a complete game two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Saints scored in the second inning when Savana Terry singled home Alyssa Hamilton who had walked and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. SF made it 2-0 in the third when Gobourne collected a one-out single and scored on a double by Jessica Parsells.
Game two was more of an offensive display with the Saints resorting to the longball to get the job done. Dara Gaylard homered twice to give her three on the year while Laila Dickey connected for a three-run shot in the fifth, her first collegiate home run.
Cris Beasley (4-1) earned the win in the nightcap with Gobourne finishing up with two scoreless innings in relief.
Dickey had four hits in the doubleheader while Gaylard and Jaye Carter had three hits apiece.
The Saints will host Eastern Florida State College for a doubleheader on Thursday with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 2 pm.
