A six run rally in the fifth inning tied the score and a walk-off RBI double by Grace Prom in the seventh gave the Saints an 8-7 win in game two after Eastern Florida State College won the opener 5-3 in eight innings.
The opener was scoreless until the sixth inning when Katelyn Wilfert put the Titans on the board with a two-run home run. The Saints answered in the bottom of the frame when Jessica Parsells led off with a single and Donnie Gobourne connected for her third home run of the season to make it 2-2.
The Titans (7-7) scored three times in the top of the eighth to get the win.
Despite the loss, SF head coach Lindsay Fico praised the performance of Gobourne who pitched all eight innigs for the Saints.
"Donnie's determinations and growth in the circle has been impressive the last couple of games," said Fico.
EFS continued their hot hitting to start game two with three runs in the first inning and built a 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth when the Saints offense came alive.
The Saints sent 11 batters to the plate collecting three doubles and a single and took advantage of four free passes to tie the score at 6-6. Gobourne had two runs batted in during the rally while Prom, Karina Ortiz-Munoz and Ashlyn Rogers had one each.
"It was encouraging to see our hitters battle through their struggles early in the day and find a way to win the second game," said Fico. "I'm impressed with the team's fight in the late innings."
SF scored a go-ahead run on the sixth, but the Titans tied it again setting the stage for Prom's heroics in the seventh. Grace Guthrie led off the inning by drawing a base on balls and two outs later scored on Prom's clutch hit.
Parsells (1-0) made a rare relief appearance to earn the win in game two for the Saints.
"Jessica Parsells was the epitome of a perfect teammate today," said Fico. "She had some key hits and came in and threw two of the best innings in her career after not having pitched in almost a year. I'm very proud of her willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team."
Jaye Carter had five hits on the day for the Saints while Parsells, Prom and Gobourne each had three hits.
SF (10-6) will take Friday off before traveling to Sanford, Fla. to participate in the Courtney Miller Invitational with two games on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
