Softball Tops No. 19 Seminole State College, 6-5
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe softball overcame a three-run deficit at home against No. 19 Seminole State College, prevailing by a 6-5 score over the Raiders.
Weather hit the Gainesville area prior to the start of Game 2, which never was started. The two teams will now work to determine if there is an available makeup date to complete the doubleheader.
GAME 1 – SF 6, SSC 5
Grace Prom's RBI single down the third base line in the bottom of the second inning scored Ashlyn Rogers, who had led off with a double, and the Saints led 1-0.
The Raiders countered with an RBI single in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Shaela Bybee began SF's at-bats in the bottom of the fourth with a double, and then came around to put the Saints ahead 2-1 after Prom reached on an error.
Santa Fe fell into a three-run hole, 5-2, after Seminole State was able to produce four runs in the top of the fifth. The Raiders tied it at 2-2 with a single, sac bunt, and double, then smacked a three-run home run to left-center field.
The Saints were able to get out of the fifth inning with a spectacular grab in left field by Cris'Deona Beasley, who stuck out her glove while turning over her left shoulder and snow coned a well-hit ball in the wind. Beasley then started the relay back to first base, where the runner had not tagged up.
Trailing 5-2, Santa Fe responded to Seminole State with a big inning of their own. Story Giebeig had a double and scored on a Beasley single. After a Rogers' single, Bybee drove her second double of the day deep into right-center field to score Beasley.
Prom stepped into the batter's box with two outs already recorded and doubled into left-center field, driving home two runs to put SF ahead 6-5.
After both sides were retired in order in the sixth inning, the Raiders took their at-bats in the seventh. The first two batters reached on a single and bunt single. With runners at first and third, starter Taylor Barrett had a wild pitch. The runner on third elected to try and score the tying run, but catcher Neely Peterson was quick to collect the ball and toss to the covering Barrett for the out.
The Saints were still not safe from the threat, with Seminole State still having a runner on second base. After a walk, however, Barrett set down the final two batters with a line drive to Jayelyn Carter in center field and a strikeout looking.
Key Statistics
The Saints had 12 hits, with multi-hit efforts from Prom, Peterson, Rogers, and Bybee. SF also had five doubles, with two coming off the bat of Bybee.

Barrett earned the win with a complete game, allowing seven hits, five runs, and six walks while striking out seven.
Fico's Focus
"Taylor Barrett had another strong outing in the circle today. I am proud of how she has bounced back from some recent struggles. I look forward to what she continues to do in the final week of conference play. Our lineup did a great job of hitting through the order today. We had a number of big at-bats, but Shaela Bybee's performance at the plate stood out for sure. We hit the ball hard all day and honestly could have had 4-5 home runs if the wind had not been blowing straight in."
