Softball's Giebeig to Continue Career at Valdosta State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Story Giebeig of Santa Fe College Softball, a member of the 2022 All Mid-Florida Conference First Team, has made a commitment to attend Valdosta State University to compete for the Blazers.
In 2022, Giebeig was the everyday third baseman for the Saints, playing all 51 games while batting from the heart of the order in her second season with SF.
The Lake City, Fla. native and Columbia High School graduate connected for 51 hits in 144 at-bats for a .354 batting average, a .462 on-base percentage, and a .681 slugging percentage. She produced a team-high 59 RBI, ranking third in the FCSAA at the time.
Additionally, she tied for the team lead with 12 home runs to rank second in the FCSAA. Giebeig showed patience at the plate and was walked on a team-high 31 occasions, the third-highest total in the FCSAA. Giebeig owned two separate six-game hitting streaks, and played a part in seven double-plays with a fielding percentage of .939 from the hot corner.
Valdosta State University Softball is coached by Thomas Macera, who is in the midst of his 17th season at the helm of the successful NCAA Division II program. Macera is the winningest active coach in all of NCAA Division II, helping the Blazers become a power in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) and at the national level. In 2022, the Blazers are currently 34-11, 21-5 in the GSC, and preparing for an NCAA South Region Tournament matchup with Rollins College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Giebeig is now the second softball commitment to be announced on santafesaints.com, joining Morgan Lebeda (Rollins College).
In Head Coach Savanah Webster's first season with the Saints, SF posted an overall record of 32-19 with a 13-7 mark in the MFC. The Saints held a 21-6 record on their home field, and the 32 wins overall surpassed the mark of 31 in 2021, continuing the program's upward trajectory.
