Abrams Named FCSAA Pitcher of Week after Four Wins from Circle
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After several locked in performances and four wins from the circle, Sophie Abrams of Santa Fe College Softball was voted as the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week.
The story from the FCSAA is included at the conclusion of this release...all weekly honorees are automatically submitted for NJCAA Player of the Week consideration on behalf of Region 8 and the FCSAA.
Abrams, a third-year sophomore transfer from the College of Central Florida, has been in the zone for the Saints of late, and helped SF go a perfect 6-0 during the week of March 6.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native was a workhorse with 24.2 innings pitched on the week, and she posted a 4-0 record with an ERA of just 0.85.
After two dominant complete game victories over Eastern Florida and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Abrams was credited with both of the wins for the Saints over St. Petersburg on Saturday, Mar. 11.
She threw six quality innings in an 8-6 win in Game 1 over the Titans, allowing just two earned runs, then followed it up with a dazzling 4.2 innings of work in Game 2 where she allowed no hits and just one walk in the 5-4 outcome.
Abrams' honor is her first as a Saint, and it is the second weekly award for the SF pitching staff. Counterpart Kensley Durrance earned the distinction as well on Feb. 7.
