Saints Battle Against #5 Pioneers at Home
Gainesville, FL - On Sunday afternoon, the Santa Fe Saints hosted Indian River State College for a double-header. This is the first matchup this season between the Saints and the Pioneers. The Saints lost the first game of the doubleheader 6-3 and won the second game 10-2. Their record progresses to 24-11.
How It Happened:
Game One
Mallory Forrester started on the mound for the Saints and pitched for a total of eight innings. She allowed three hits, six runs, and had two strikeouts.
In the bottom of the first inning, Kamaya Cohen was walked by Indian River State College, bringing Ariana Wright up to bat. Cohen then stole second base and advanced to third on a fielder's choice ground ball by Wright. Ultimately, the Saints were unable to capitalize on the baserunner and did not score any runs in the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, Kamaya Cohen had an impressive catch on a ball hit to left center field. This allowed the Saints to escape the inning giving up no runs.
In the bottom of the second, Madi Conway made it safely to first base on an infield error by the short stop. Up next, Alexis Daphney was walked, advancing Conway to second. Both runners advanced on a fielder's choice ground ball hit by Anna Burnside. Both Conway and Daphney scored on a double hit by Aliana Mercado to right field.
Forrester allowed no hits or runs in the top of the third inning.
The Saints had no hits or runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Presley Smith had a solo home run to put the Pioneers on the board in the top of the fourth inning (2-1 Saints). The Saints escaped the inning allowing no other runs.
Alexis Daphney was walked in the bottom of the fourth and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Karris Rhine. Ultimately, the Saints were unable to bring Daphney in and did not score any runs in the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the fifth inning, Ciara Gendron began the inning with a triple followed by a hit by pitch of the next batter, putting runners at first and third with no outs. The Pioneers loaded the bases on an infield hit and tied the game on a pass ball by Forrester. Indian River State College scored one more run in the fifth inning (3-2 Pioneers).
In the bottom of the fifth, the Saints had no hits and no runs.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Saints allowed no hits or runs.
To begin the bottom of the sixth inning, Ariana Wright had a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. The Saints didn't score any more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In the seventh inning, the Pioneers had no hits or runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sydney Fowler hit a double to the center field fence, but the Saints did not score any runs.
The game then advanced to extra innings still tied 3-3. In the top of the 8th inning, the Pioneers scored three runs, defeating the Saints 6-3.
Game Two
In game two, Ryleigh Bauer started on the mound for the Saints. In the first inning, Bauer gave up no hits and no runs.
Both Sydney Fowler and Kamaya Cohen were walked to begin the bottom of the first inning. Madi Conway then hit a three run home run, giving the Saints a fast lead (3-0).
In the second inning, the Pioneers and Saints both had no hits and no runs. In the top of the third, Bauer gave up two hits.
In the top of the third inning, the Pioneers put two runs on the board (3-2 Saints) and the Saints did not score any runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the fourth inning, the Saints had a quick three up, three down inning and did not allow any runs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Saints loaded the bases bringing Sydney Fowler up to bat. Fowler walked, scoring Karris Rhine (4-2 Saints). Kamaya Cohen then had a two run RBI single to right field. Up next, Ariana Wright hit an RBI single to left field increasing the Saints lead to 7-2. Madi Conway then hit her second three run home run of the game, scoring Wright and Cohen.
In the top of the fifth inning, Bauer had two strikeouts, leading the Saints to a 10-2 victory over the Pioneers.

On Tuesday, March 26, the Saints will face St. Petersburg College at home for a double header. The first pitches will be thrown at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM EST.
