Volleyball Can’t End Slide, Fall to St. Johns River
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe College Volleyball hosted St. Johns River State College for the final nonconference match of the 2021 season, and the NJCAA Division II No. 12 ranked Vikings came away with a sweep, 25-24, 25-19, 25-21.
Set 1 – SJR 25, SF 14
Elizabeth Klein tossed up an ace to start the match on a high-note for the Saints, but SF fell into an 8-2 hole and couldn't find their way out of it.
Set 2 – SJR 25, SF 19
The Saints got down 8-2 once again, but this time were able to work their way back into contention for the set.
Trailing 10-7, the Saints scored five straight points to take a lead, a run that included a thunderous kill from Klein on an overpass, a Cali Conner kill, and an Emily Loose ace.
Eight of the next ten points, however, went to the Vikings, who stayed ahead the rest of the way and sealed the set with a kill.
Set 3 – SJR 25, SF 21
The two sides kept close in the third frame until the Vikings were the first to get a little separation, going on a 4-1 run to establish a 12-8 lead.
The deficit was still four for SF, 13-9, when the Saints accounted for five straight points, highlighted by two kills from Kassidy Bolling and two more aces from Klein.
The narrow lead wouldn't hold to extend the match, however, and the Vikings preserved the win with a kill on a backset.
