Volleyball Swept at Lake-Sumter
LEESBURG, Fla. – Lake-Sumter State College evened the season series with Santa Fe College Volleyball on Wednesday evening, getting past the Saints in three-straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set was tied at 11-11, but the Lakehawks started to create some separation from the Saints with three unanswered points.
SF never was any closer than within two points the rest of the way in Set 1, and LSSC jumped in front 1-0.
Set 2 took a similar shape, with the two sides going back-and-forth in the early going. A mini-spurt from the Lakehawks once again created a Saints' deficit in the middle of the set, and a 7-2 run gave the hosts a 23-16 advantage.
A kill from Katelyn Crofts, followed by back-to-back aces from the middle blocker gave the Saints a spark and forced a Lake-Sumter timeout. The Lakehawks were able to stop the momentum out of the break, however, and seized the 2-0 lead by closing out the frame.
SF led by as many as five points, 18-13, in Set 3. The lead disappeared though, and Lake-Sumter preserved the sweep by breaking a 23-23 tie down the stretch, claiming the match's final two points.
