Three Former Saints Win National Championship with The University of Tampa
Gainesville, FL
Santa Fe College Athletics is proud to shine this week's Alumni Spotlight on three former Saints who played for the University of Tampa this past season! The University of Tampa baseball team came out victorious this season at the Division II Baseball Championships in Cary, North Carolina concluding on June 7th 2025. The #1 Spartans (55-10) defeated #2 Central Missouri in the third and final game of the championship series with an 11-5 final score. 2025 marks Tampa's 10th national championship and earns them the title of back-to-back champions.
Drake Harman, Tobin Moran, and Santiago Garavito all spent two years of their collegiate baseball careers at Santa Fe College under Head Coach Johnny Wiggs prior to signing with Tampa.
Drake Harman spent 2023 and 2024 with the Saints, accruing 115 hits and 60 RBI in his two years at Santa Fe. Harman primarily worked as an outfielder and spent most of his time in right field. After two years, Harman signed with Tampa for 2025 to be his first season with the Spartans. This season he appeared in 14 games, tallying three hits in 14 games while drawing 7 walks. Harman additionally drove in 5 runs while reaching base over 38% of the time.
Tobin Moran was a member of the 2022 and 2023 Saints baseball teams as a right handed pitcher. As a freshman, Moran made 12 appearances stretching 39.1 innings while striking out 23. Moran saw a big jump in numbers during his sophomore season, dealing a 2.51 ERA over 86 innings with an 8-1 record. Moran struck out 71 batters and was able to limit baserunners with a WHIP of .98. In 2023 Moran was named NJCAA All-Region 8 First Team, Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year, and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week (March 29th). At Tampa, Moran made 10 appearances in 2024 with a 3-1 record and securing a save. Moran was redshirted during the 2025 season and will look to keep his firepower on the mound for Tampa in 2026.
Santiago Garavito played his 2021 and 2022 seasons at Santa Fe after receiving a Covid-19 redshirt from the shortened 2020 season while he was at Broward College. As a freshman at Santa Fe, Garavito hit .247 with 3 home runs and 24 RBI's. In his second year for the Saints, Garavito was named First Team All-Mid-Florida Conference for slashing .319/.392/.500 on 53 hits with 19 doubles. Garavito also held a nine-game hitting streak. After signing with the Tampa after his two years at Santa Fe, Garavito has made an impact on the Spartans roster collecting 124 hits, 96 RBI's and drawing 65 walks during his three years. Garavito has also been named 2025 NCBWA Division II Preseason All-South Region First Team, 2024 D2CCA Honorable Mention All-American, 2024 ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-South Region, 2024 D2CCA First-Team All-South Region, 2024 NCBWA First-Team All-South Region, 2024 All-Sunshine State Conference First-Team Selection, NCBWA South Region Player of the Week (3/6/2024) and Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week (3/4/2024).
As a Saint, Tobin Moran played with both Garavito (2022), and Harman (2023) but the trio was never on the same Santa Fe squad.
