Tifton, GA – Santa Fe starting pitcher Max McKinley and the Santa Fe bullpen picked up the slack on a day when the bats weren't as hot as they've been the last few games, holding Abraham Baldwin to just one run in a 2-1 SF victory on the road. The win keeps the FCSAA #5/Baseball America #14 Saints undefeated at 5-0.
McKinley (1-0) went six strong innings, scattering five hits, allowing just one earned run while striking out five. Austin Bodrato pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Garrett Mathes (1) got the save with two scoreless frames.
Mathes not only picked up the two inning save, but he also went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in both Santa Fe runs in the third inning.
That's all the pitching staff would need to hold off ABAC who's lone run came in the fifth.
The Saints will look to extend their early season win streak on Friday when they travel to Hillsborough CC for a rematch with the Hawks. Santa Fe won in walk off fashion 3-2 on a bottom of the 11th hit by Nick Lentz on opening day.
