The win improves the NJCAA #5 Saints to 21-4 and 3-0 in MFC play. They've now won seven games in a row, their second winning streak of at least seven games this season.
Devin Hemenway started on the hill and tossed seven innings, allowing five runs, three of them earned, and struck out eight.
The Saints took a 7-0 lead through three innings and appeared to be cruising to another win. FSC-J had other ideas and after scoring three runs in the fourth to cut into the SF advantage, completed the comeback in the eighth, scoring four runs, three of them on a triple that was lost in the sun by the Saints center fielder Parker Beiderer.
With the score knotted at 7-7, Santa Fe poured it on in the bottom half of the eighth. Beiderer lead the frame off with a walk after a patient at bat and Mikey Navarrete sacrificed him to second. Garrett Mathes made the Saints execution count, singling home Beiderer for the 8-7 lead.
Not content to be just a run up, Cade Westbrook knocked in two runs with a double to left and two batters later Brock Edge added an insurance run to make it 11-7.
Capping the wild afternoon, Jeff Misener hit a no doubt homerun (1) on the first pitch of his first at bat that cleared the street in the air in right field for the final 13-7 margin.
Garrett Mathes earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 innings for his third win of the year. Offensively he was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a homerun (1) and two RBI. Westbrook finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, and two RBI, and Brock Edge was 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI.
The Saints will host a non-conference game on Friday, March 9 when they battle Kalamazoo Valley Community College (MI) at 3:00 p.m.
