Gainesville, FL – For the second game in a row, Max McKinley was absolutely dominant on the hill for NJCAA #1/FCSAA#1 Santa Fe College, this time blanking St. John's River State College 1-0 for his second straight complete game shutout. He has now thrown 18 straight scoreless innings for the top ranked team in the nation.
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning. Cade Westbrook set the table for Santa Fe, leading off with a triple to deep center field. Two batters later, Brock Edge continued his hot hitting, drilling a single up the middle past the diving second baseman to put a run on the board.
That was all the support McKinley would need as he threw 106 pitches on the way to his fourth win of the season (4-0). He was arguably better in his second shutout, striking out 10 Viking batters, a season high, while walking none. SJR had just four hits, all of them singles. At one point in the middle innings, McKinley set down 13 batters in a row. The middle of the Vikings order (2-5) was 0-for-15 in the game.
The win moves SF to 23-4 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference. They will play the second game of their series with St. John's River in Palatka on Friday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. The two teams will then face off again in Gainesville on Saturday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. Fans who can't make it to the ball park can watch live at www.santafesaints.com/saintssportsnetwork
