Saints struggle against Pats
The Santa Fe Saints continued to struggle in Mid-Florida Conference play, losing 11-1 to the Patriots of the College of Central Florida Wednesday afternoon in Ocala.
CF (26-3, 5-2 MFC) scored early and often taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning and scoring in every inning except the third in the game shortened to seven innings.
"We gave then too many freebies, made a couple of defensive mistakes and couldn't get a big hit," said SF head coach Johnny Wiggs. "CF is too good to give them that many opportunities. We have to play better to beat good teams."
The Saints only run came in the sixth when Jarrod Cande, Brock Edge and Zeke Malz hit consecutive singles.
Donovan Benoit (3-2) took the loss.
SF (20-9, 1-3 MFC) will host the Patriots for the second game of the three-game series on Friday at 3 p.m.
