AUBURNDALE, Fla. - A day after defeating TNXL Academy in extra-innings, Santa Fe College baseball suffered an extra-inning loss to Indian River State College, 12-8 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Fla.
Santa Fe fell behind early, allowing four runs in the first inning.
With the Saints still trailing, 8-5, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Nick Herndon came to the plate with two outs already recorded and the bases loaded. Herndon proceeded to clear the bases with a game-tying triple, forcing extra-innings and keeping the Saints' hopes alive.
Indian River State College responded with four runs in their next at-bats in the eighth inning, however, and the Santa Fe bats were then kept quiet to conclude the game.
Herndon's triple came in his lone at-bat and drove in three baserunners, while Coy Phillips went 2-of-2 with an RBI. Jonathan Logsdon also had a productive outing from the box, going 2-of-4 with three runs scored.
