Adams Throws Complete Game Shutout, Baseball Wins 5-0 over ABAC
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe baseball won their third straight game, bolstered by a dominant, complete game outing from starting pitcher Robb Adams in a 5-0 result over visiting Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
Adams has been remarkable for the Saints all season long. The lefty has yet to allow an earned run in his four games started and 26.1 innings pitched. Tuesday's victory was the second win of the season for Adams, the first complete game for SF this season, and the first shutout of the season for the Saints' pitching staff.
The Stallions only mustered three singles and two walks off Adams, who struck out a season-high eight batters. Adams ended the game appropriately, earning the final out with a swinging third strike.
The Saints' offense produced ten hits on the day, bringing four runs across in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth.
In the fourth, Coy Phillips' single scored Tyler Shelnut and Nick Herndon had an RBI double. Bret Madren later made contact to the outfield before an ABAC error to score a run, and Jonathan Logsdon added a sacrifice fly to hand the Saints the 4-0 advantage.
Madren's double in the sixth inning scored Gabriel Esquivel to account for the game's final run.
Logsdon, Phillips, Herndon, and Esquivel each had two hits for the Saints. Madren had one of the three doubles for Santa Fe, alongside extra base hits from Logsdon and Herndon.
The Saints were also active on the basepaths with four stolen bases, one apiece from Armando Albert, Phillips, Herndon, and Esquivel.
Wiggs' Words
"Robb was in control from the get go," said Head Coach Johnny Wiggs. "He only allowed three hits and two walks, but also picked off three baserunners to face only two over the minimum. He really kept them off balance throwing all four of his pitches for strikes. He has been outstanding in his four starts."
"Our hitters and pitchers have been covering each other up nicely lately. When we haven't pitched that well, we have hit. We didn't score a ton of runs today but Robb was in control. It is nice to see us get going in the win column, having won six out of our last eight."
