Baseball's Win Streak Concludes with 6-5 Loss at St. Johns River
PALATKA, Fla. – Santa Fe baseball's seven-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints were topped 6-5 at St. Johns River State College.
For the second straight day just one run separated the two sides, after Santa Fe defeated the Vikings by a 4-3 score on Friday, March 12.
St. Johns River went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, after a solo home run and an RBI single.
The Saints responded and tied the ball game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, following an RBI triple from Gabriel Esquivel and a single from Dylan Mock that brought him around.
Santa Fe took their first lead of the game in the fifth, 3-2, with the second home run of the season for Santiago Garavito.
After SJR tied it at 3-3 in the sixth, each team exhanged single runs in the seventh.
Esquivel's double in the top of the eighth scored Zeb Marquis and handed SF a 5-4 lead, which held until the ninth.
The Vikings took advantage of two errors from Santa Fe in the final inning, and the final run came across on a full-count walk.

Santa Fe had 12 hits to St. Johns River's 10.
Esquivel finished 2-of-4 with two RBI, a triple, and a run scored. Xavier Moronta was 3-of-4 with a run scored, and Garavito went 2-of-4 with an RBI on the home run and two runs scored.
Robb Adams started and had a quality start, finishing six innings with eight hits allowed, three runs (two earned), one walk, and eight strikeouts.
Carson Pillsbury (0.2 IP) and Garfield Johns (1.1 IP) came out of the bullpen for the Saints in the seventh and eighth, and Tyler Shelnut was charged with the loss in the ninth, conceding two unearned runs.

"Robb Adams again gave us another quality start with six good innings. We had plenty of good at-bats, but we didn't execute well a few times, which hurt us in trying to extend the lead. We will bounce back tomorrow."
