
Rodriguez Bats His Way to FCSAA Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Luis Rodriguez of Santa Fe College baseball has been chosen as the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday.
After earning the honor, Rodriguez will automatically be submitted into consideration for the NJCAA Player of the Week award.
Rodriguez beat out five other candidates for the honor based on his play from March 8 - March 14. The complete release from the FCSAA highlighting all of the week's honorees is included below.
The sophomore third baseman from Guarenas, Venezuela, a transfer from Dyersburg State, batted .438 (7-for-16) with seven runs scored, one double, four walks, two home runs, and eight RBI in five games.
Rodriguez helped the Saints to four wins on the week, including two against Daytona State. Against the Falcons, he went a combined 6-for-8, scoring five runs, driving in six, with a two home-run game in the 9-6 victory on March 10.
The Saints have won nine of their last ten games, and Rodriguez has been a key factor to Santa Fe's success. He currently leads the team in a number of statistical offensive categories, including hits (28), doubles (7), home runs (5), RBI (26), and slugging percentage (.675).
Rodriguez and the Saints will play on Wednesday, March 17 at home against Florida State College at Jacksonville. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
