Baseball's Nine-Game Winning Streak Snapped in 8-4 Loss to Seminole State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe baseball had its nine-game winning streak halted on Wednesday afternoon by visiting Seminole State College, 8-4.
Despite the defeat, the Saints still sit atop the Mid-Florida Conference standings with a 23-9 mark and 12-2 record in conference play.
Santa Fe got off to a slow start, and Seminole State made the most of it with a run in each of the game's first three innings.
The Saints' first run came in the bottom of the fifth frame on a leadoff home run from Bret Madren, his first of the season.
The Raiders responded, however, scoring two runs in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead after a two-run homer.
A Seminole State run in the eighth brought the score to 6-1.
The Saints came back from a 7-1 deficit in the series opener with the Raiders, and it appeared that SF may have had a rally coming once again.
Santa Fe's Luis Rodriguez smacked a three-run home run in the eighth to make it 6-4, and the bases then were loaded with one out.
The Raiders would work themselves out of the jam, however, and tacked on two more runs in the ninth before ending the game with a double-play for the final two outs in the bottom half.
