WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – No. 16 Santa Fe Baseball fell to Polk State College for the second time this season, as the Eagles prevailed in a pitcher's duel, 2-1.
Polk State produced the game's opening run, taking advantage of an error from the Saints in the first inning.
The Eagles scored a second run in the fifth on a passed ball, and led 2-0 headed into the sixth.
SF cut their deficit in half with a single tally in the sixth, when JP Herrholz had a sacrifice fly to bring home Jake McKee.
The Saints, however, never were really able to threaten for the game-tying or go-ahead run, falling to a record of 5-4 on the season.
Key Statistics
The Saints had just four hits in the game and left nine on base.
Herrholz had a double and the lone RBI.
Mitchell Gross had a great start but was charged with the loss. He threw six innings and allowed four hits, two unearned runs, and five walks. He struck out three.
Gavin Book and Jalen Hudson had scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
