GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Receiving votes Santa Fe College Baseball had an explosive day at the plate on Wednesday afternoon, dismantling the visiting State College of Florida Manatees, 19-7.
Nine runs in the fourth broke the game open and handed SF a 10-0 lead. In that frame, SF batted around and used a three-run bomb from Santiago Garavito to establish the double-digit lead.
Two more runs in the fifth brought the score to 12-0, and despite a five-run inning from the Manatees in the top of the sixth, the outcome was never in doubt the rest of the way as the SF bats continued their torrid pace.
Key Statistics
The game went eight innings, and ten different Saints recorded hits as SF set new season-highs for runs scored (19) and hits (16).
Jevin Relaford and Gabriel Esquivel each led SF with three hits apiece. Esquivel drive in three with a triple and double, while Relaford had a three-bagger as well to go along with two RBI.
Garavito's homer was his second of the season and accounted for his three RBI, while Zeb Marquis also finished with three RBI of his own, which included a double.
Seven different pitchers took to the mound, as the Saints were able to spread the innings out ahead of Mid-Florida Conference play. Starter Lance Bolton was awarded his first win of the season, after making his most recent appearances out of the bullpen.
