
Baseball Shuts Down Lake-Sumter in 4-0 Victory
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe Baseball pitched their fourth shutout of the 2022 season on Monday afternoon at Lake-Sumter, evening the final series of the regular season at a game apiece.
The Lakehawks were only able to total three hits against Saints pitching, and SF scored a single run in the second, two in the fourth, and one more for insurance in the ninth to pick up the victory and move above .500 in Mid-Florida Conference play.
Santiago Garavito led off the second inning with a double, and then scored the first run on an error from LSSC.
A two-run long ball from Garavito pushed the Saints' lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth, and Gabriel Esquivel's solo home run in the ninth inning was the game's final tally.
Key Statistics
Esquivel's home run was his 18th of the season. Xavier Moronta, Garavito, Wyatt Campbell, and Hunter Keen all had two-hit games, with Garavito's day standing out with the double, home run, and two RBI.
On the mound, SF went in order: Jalen Hudson, Gaven Book, Tobin Moran. Hudson started before giving way to Book in the first inning. Book allowed just three walks and struck out four in 2.2 innings pitched, then gave the ball off to Moran.
Moran (3-4) was excellent in six innings of work to lead to the combined shutout, conceding just two hits and one walk while recording three strikeouts.
