
Eight Tabbed All Mid-Florida Conference for SF Baseball
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Following the conclusion of the 2022 season, Santa Fe Baseball had eight Saints recognized by league coaches as All Mid-Florida Conference performers.
Five saints were selected to the First Team at their respective positions: Gabriel Esquivel, Tyler Shelnut, Xavier Moronta, Santiago Garavito, and Trent Becker. Jevin Relaford, Lance Bolton, and Mitchell Gross were chosen to the Second Team.

"It's nice to see our guys recognized for their efforts this year," said Head Coach Johnny Wiggs. "We had a lot of guys have great years. Esquivel had one of the best years ever by a hitter at Santa Fe and Shelnut matched him in the HR and RBI column. I am just really proud of our guys and look forward to following them at the four-year level."
GABRIEL ESQUIVEL, FIRST TEAM (INF)
- The native of Doral, Fla. and North Broward Prep graduate excelled in a prolific second season for the Saints
- Appeared in 48 games as the everyday first baseman
- Led SF in hits (64), triples (4), HR (19), RBI (58), walks (36), batting average (.390), on-base percentage (.512), and slugging percentage (.866)
- Paced the FCSAA with his 19 long balls, which currently ranks No. 5 in all of the NJCAA
- Tied the program-record for home runs in a season with 19 alongside teammate Tyler Shelnut and Santa Fe Athletics Hall of Famer Matt Armstrong
- The FCSAA leader in slugging percentage who also ranked within the Top-10 in numerous offensive categories
- Hit safely in eight of his final nine games, and recorded 19 multi-hit games
- Had home runs in five consecutive games from Mar. 25 - Apr. 1
- Smacked two home runs against Polk State College on Feb. 4
- Played a part in turning 26 double plays defensively

TYLER SHELNUT, FIRST TEAM (INF)
- A Lake City, Fla. native and graduate of Fort White High School
- Appeared in 45 games as an infielder in his second season as a Saint, spending most of his time at second base
- Claimed First Team All Mid-Florida Conference honors in 2022 after being named to the Second Team in 2021
- Was part of the dynamic duo at the heart of the order alongside Esquivel
- Tied the program-record for home runs in a season with 19 alongside Esquivel and Santa Fe Athletics Hall of Famer Matt Armstrong
- Led SF with 51 runs scored
- Amassed 58 hits, 57 RBI, and 22 walks while hitting for an average of .333, an on-base percentage of .420, and a slugging percentage of .747
- Had 18 multi-hit games
- Held a 12-game hitting streak from Mar. 18 - Apr. 4
- Notched three multi-homer games, and cleared the fence in five consecutive games from Apr. 11 - Apr. 18
- Chosen as the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Player of the Week on Apr. 19 | Story

XAVIER MORONTA, FIRST TEAM (OF)
- Moronta, an outfielder from Miramar, Fla. and Doral Academy completed his third season with the Saints in 2022
- Played in 37 games
- Ranked second on the team in batting average at .344
- Contributed 43 hits, 30 RBI, 14 doubles, two triples, and three home runs
- Had hits in 15 of the Saints' last 16 outings, which included a ten-game hitting streak
- Produced 13 multi-hit games
- Drove in a season-high four runs on Apr. 15 in a win over St. Johns River

SANTIAGO GARAVITO, FIRST TEAM (C)
- In his second season with SF, the Plantation, Fla. product and American Heritage graduate had a great season behind the plate and in the batter's box
- Played in 48 games, often batting cleanup
- Paced SF with 19 doubles and tied with Moronta with 30 RBI
- Ranked No. 4 on the Saints in hits (53), runs scored (34), and batting average (.319)
- Added one triple and three home runs to his resume
- Had 16 multi-hit games and put together a nine-game hitting streak
- Gunned down 16 would-be base stealers with throws from behind the plate

TRENT BECKER, FIRST TEAM (P)
- The left-handed pitcher from Trenton, Fla. and Trenton High School performed well in his second season with SF
- The starter appeared in 14 games to post a 7-4 overall record
- Led the Saints' staff with an ERA of just 2.22, the fifth lowest mark in the FCSAA
- In his 73 innings of work, Becker struck out 63 batters
- Tossed two complete games

JEVIN RELAFORD, SECOND TEAM (INF)
- Completed his third season at SF in 2022, contributing as a middle infielder
- Played in 50 of the Saints' 51 games
- Spent the majority of his time at shortstop and hitting from the leadoff spot
- Ranked third on the team with 56 hits, which included 11 doubles and two triples
- Scored 43 runs and drove in 22
- Drew 31 walks and stole 18 bases
- Hit safely in eight of the team's final nine contests
- Played a part in turning 23 double plays defensively

LANCE BOLTON, SECOND TEAM (P)
- A pitcher that completed his third season with the Saints
- Made 15 appearances on the mound with nine starts
- In 53 innings pitched, Bolton posted a 4.42 ERA while striking out 59 hitters
- Posted a record of 4-2, and also earned a save
- Threw one complete game, a 10-2 win over Daytona State on Apr. 20
- His 10.02 K/9 ratio led all SF pitchers who threw more than 20 innings
- Struck out a career-high nine hitters against South Florida State College on Feb. 5

- A third-year Saint from Gainesville, Ga. and Forsyth Central High School
- 2022 was his second time on the All Mid-Florida Conference list, after being named to the First Team in 2021
- All 13 of his appearances were starts
- Held a record of 3-2 with an ERA of 4.01
- Led SF with 76.1 innings pitched and struck out a team-high 70 batters faced
- Threw two complete games, including a three-hit, eight K shutout win over St. Johns River on Mar. 19
