Rodriguez Walks-Off & Baseball Wins in Pitcher's Duel, 3-2 over Polk
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a pitcher's duel on the SF Baseball Field, the Santa Fe College Saints (18-1) outlasted the Polk State College Eagles (9-7) by a 3-2 score, winning on a walk-off single from Zeth Rodriguez in the tenth inning.
SOME NUMBERS OF NOTE
The game featured two of the hottest teams in all of the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8, with Santa Fe holding a 17-1 mark entering the day's play, and the Eagles having won nine of their last ten outings.
A GAME-CHANGING PLAY…
The Saints' at-bats in the tenth produced the winning runs. Josh Hogue reached on the Eagles' second error to lead off the frame. After Hogue moved up to second base, Jahlani Rogers singled with a perfectly placed bunt to put runners on the corners.
Rogers stole second base with JP Herrholz at-bat, and after an Eagles strikeout, Zeth Rodriguez kept it simple, put it into left field on the first pitch he saw, and the Saints started the celebration for the season's 18th win.
TEAM COMPARISON
The starting pitchers, Tobin Moran for the Saints and Jaydon Bishop for the Eagles, were exceptional on the mound. Each worked their way into the eighth inning…
Each team had five hits, none of which went for extra-bases.
Defense played a key factor in this one, with Polk State committing two key errors that aided the Saints' cause. SF played error-free for a third straight game.
