Seminole Sneaks Away with 2-1 Win over No. 2 Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – NJCAA Pitcher of the Week Tobin Moran for No. 2 Santa Fe College Baseball and Seminole State's Tyler Van Dyke found themselves in a pitcher's duel on Wednesday afternoon, and by way of Van Dyke's complete game, the Raiders came away with another one-run victory over the Saints, 2-1.
Each of No. 2 Santa Fe's losses this season have come to the Raiders in Van Dyke starts, and the SF bats just couldn't get going on Wednesday in the first loss of 2023 on the SF Baseball Field.
A GAME-CHANGING PLAY…
Seminole State's Kishon Frett got the Raiders going with a two-out double in the top of the ninth inning, bringing Danny Ramirez to the plate.
Facing Chase Chappell, Ramirez took an 0-1 pitch on the ground right back up the middle. The ball just snuck under Chappell's reaching glove, and because it wasn't too hard hit, Frett was able to score the go-ahead, eventual winning run.
TEAM COMPARISON
All of the game's runs were produced via two-out hitting, with the Raiders having the final say in the ninth.
Seminole State had 11 hits, while Santa Fe had just five to tie a season-low for a nine-inning game.
With the wind blowing slightly in, several hard-hit balls seemed to hang up. There were only four extra-base hits all game (all doubles), three of which came from the Raiders.
SF had two defensive errors, while Seminole State made one.
