
Santa Fe Shuts Out Central Florida
Gainesville, FL - On Thursday afternoon, the Santa Fe Saints hosted the College of Central Florida Patriots in a single game matchup. This is the first matchup of the season between the Saints and the Patriots. In today's game, the Saints fought hard to come out with a win against the Patriots with a score of 2-0. Their record improves to 18-13.
How It Happened
Matthew Jenkins started on the mound for the Saints and pitched for a total of five innings. He allowed four hits, zero earned runs, and had three strikeouts. Nick Davidson followed up after him on the mound and pitched for three innings. He allowed two hits, zero earned runs, and had four strikeouts. He struck out the first batter he faced in the top of the sixth inning. Colby Rice was the closer for the Saints. The Saints pitchers had a total of seven strikeouts.
Drake Harman, Javier Soto, Cory Filley, Wyatt Campbell, and Anthony Fimiano each had one hit in today's game. Landon Rogers and Cory Filley also had one RBI each.
The Saints started off the game by ending the top of the first inning with a double play, getting the Patriots out at first and second base. In the bottom of the first inning, Javier Soto hit a single to give the Saints their first hit of the game.
In the bottom of the third inning, Drake Harman made it to first off of a successful bunt. Harman made it home thanks to a fair ball down the left field line by Cory Filley. Filley made it to second base.
Wyatt Campbell hit a stunning triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and eventually made it home off of a sacrifice fly from Landon Rogers to improve the score to 2-0.
The starting pitcher for the Patriots was Todd Kniebbe. He pitched for two innings, had one hit, zero earned runs, and had three strikeouts. The leading hitters for the Patriots were Kareh Valentin and Edwin Toribio with two hits.
Today, the Saints had a total of five hits while the Patriots had seven hits. The final score of the game between the Santa Fe Saints and the College of Central Florida Patriots was a 2-0 shutout.
