Raiders Too Much For Saints
Sanford, FL. – On Thursday, the Saints baseball team traveled to Sanford to take on the Seminole State Raiders. This was the first time the teams faced one another this season. After struggling to produce any offense and a lackluster performance on defense, the Saints lost to the Raiders 9-1. Their record is now 19-16.
How It Happened
Matthew Jenkins started on the mound for the Saints. He pitched two innings, gave up seven hits, and allowed five earned runs. Jenkins also only had one strikeout today for the Saints, but was relieved by Travis Mabin and Kristoffer Blanks (four strikeouts).
The leading hitters for the Saints were Javier Soto and Landon Rogers, who both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Soto doubled in the third inning and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, this was the only run for the Saints today.
The Raiders scored seven runs in the first two innings aided by errors on the Saints behalf. Ultimately, the Saints were unable to match the runs put up by the Raiders, which resulted in a lopsided victory for the Raiders.
The Saints lost 9-1.
Comments From Coach Wiggs
"We got off to a very poor start today giving up seven runs in the first two innings. Mabin and Blanks did a good job slowing them down out of of the bullpen, but we just couldn't get anything going offensively. We will bounce back and be ready for Saturday."
Up Next
The Saints will face the Raiders again on Saturday, March 30th at home for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00PM EDT.
