Game 2 Loss
Saints Season Ends at FSW
Ft. Myers, FL
The Saints 2023-24 season ended at the hands of Florida SouthWestern State College in a 3-2 decision. Justin Jackson for the Saints was strong on the mound and so was Huskey from FSW, culiminating in a low-scoring affair. The Saints' season finishes with a 31-22 overall record and a 19-14 record as they once again make a showing in the FCSAA State and Region VIII tournament. Only the top eight teams play in the FCSAA tournament and the Saints were seeded sixth. There are 17 D1 baseball programs, so once again the Saints finished in the top half and with a sixth place seed, they arguably ended the year in the top third.
Jackson pitched eight innings for the Saints and recorded nine strikeouts and gave up three runs. Relief pitcher Colby Rice came in for the top of the ninth and gave up a hit and struck out one. Overall, the Saints faired well in the defensive battle. The turning point in the game came when FSW center fielder made a spectacular catch to rob the Saints of a home run ball that would have put the Saints up by two. The Saints scattered 10 hits on the day and had multiple players with two hits. Wyatt Campbell, Javier Soto, and AJ Barrios each earned two hits while Landon Rogers and Soto both recorded an RBI. The score was tied until the top of the fourth when an FSW home run put them up by one. The Saints then answered in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up when Rogers singled to push one across. However, the Bucs found a way to push one across on a single in the top of the eighth.
The Saints season finishes at FSW and the Bucs move on to Tampa for the Final Four of the FCSAA Region VIII tournament. This marks the second year in a row that the Saints have made postseason play as last year they finished as Mid-Florida Conference runner ups and represented the MFC in the final eight. This also marks the third year out of the last four that the Johnny Wiggs led Saints have finished the season by earning a bid to the FSCAA State and Region VIII Tournament.
