Santa Fe took a seven-run lead before the Eagles found their offense and knocked the Saints off 8-7. Santa Fe scored early and often in the first game of the season series against Tallahassee State College. The Saints scored six runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth. TSC had two four-run innings in the game, in the fifth and sixth. The offense went quiet after the sixth, as the score held for a Tallahassee State win over the Saints on their home turf.
The Saints were led by Robert Nedry, who went 3-5 with two RBI on the day. Erik Blair went 2-2 with two walks, driving one run home and scoring one run. Griffin Sorrow was hitless on the day but drew three walks and came into score once.
SF used four different pitchers as Stephen Joyce received the start. Joyce went 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (two earned), and struck out seven batters. Kolten Leach was a bright spot out of the bullpen going 2.1 innings, and not allowing a hit. Leach struck out five while walking four.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday when Lake-Sumter comes to Gainesville for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
