
Saints Fall Short Versus Lakehawks
Lake-Sumter State College made the midweek trip to Gainesville for a nonconference game.

Santa Fe took a nine-run lead early in the ball game but fell 16-14 to Lake-Sumter State College. The Saints started the ball game hot on offense with an eight-run second inning. In the inning, Ryan Chase hit a three-run homerun over the right field fence highlighting the big inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Wyatt Tesar hit a three-run homerun that gave the Saints an 11-2 lead after three innings. After the big SF inning, Lake-Sumter put up a nine spot in the fourth inning to tie the game up at eleven. The Lakehawks struck again in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run inning giving them their first lead of the ball game. In the top of the eighth inning, the Lakehawks added one more run to their lead to push the score to 14-11. The Saints answered in the bottom of the eight with a run to make it 14-12 as the Saints stranded two in scoring position. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Robert Nedry hit a two-run homerun well over the right-center field fence tying the game 14-14. The Lakehawks added two runs in the top of the tenth to take the lead back 16-14.
Nick Staszak received his first start and appearance of the season. Staszak went 3.0 innings allowing three hits, two earned runs, and walked one. In the top of the fourth inning, the Saints used three pitchers to get the three outs and move to the bottom half. Ben Monger was able to get out the the fourth inning allowing zero runs and pitching through the seventh inning. Monger went 3.1 innings allowing three hits and two seventh-inning runs (one earned run), striking out four batters. Dylan Lovelace came in to pitch in the eighth and ninth innings. Lovelace went 2.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned runs), striking out two, and allowing just one hit.
Ryan Chase led the day for the Saints at the plate with a perfect 3-3 day, scoring two runs and driving in three RBI. Chase added his first career homerun to his tab. Tesar, Nedry, and Carlos Garcia also had a multi-hit game. Tesar added four RBI to his multi-hit day, including a three-run homerun in the third inning, while Nedry added two RBI off his two-run, game-tying homerun.
Santa Fe is back in action on Friday afternoon when Tallahassee State College comes to Gainesville for a rematch of Monday afternoon's ball game. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
