Winter Haven, FL
Santa Fe took an early lead, but could not hang on as Polk State knocked off SF 8-4 in game one of two. The Saints struck first in the second inning scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead, the lead did not hold long as a two-run homerun put the score at 3-2. A run in the third inning was the final run Santa Fe scored in the game as Polk State ran away with it in the bottom of the fourth onward.
At the plate Robert Nedry led the Saints in hits, going 2-4 scoring a run and driving a run in. Nedry was the only other Saint with more than a single hit.
Matthew Pagan received the start and a loss, going 3.1 innings allowing five hits and five earned runs. Dylan Lovelace came in relief going 2.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned). Lovelace allowed four hits and struck out two batters.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Polk State tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. A run in the fifth and three in the seventh inning had the Saints in front 5-3. An insurance run in the eighth inning played dividends as Polk State scored two runs in the ninth, but fell short.
Trey Freeman led the Saints at the plate in game two going 2-4 scoring two runs and driving two runs in. Griffin Sorrow went 2-3 with a walk and scoring one run. Lucas Johns had one of his best appearances on the season going 6.0 innings allowing seven hits allowing three runs (one earned) and struck out six. Chase Chappell entered in the seventh inning and received the save going 3.0 innings allowing two hits and two runs, striking out three.
The Saints return home on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Pasco-Hernando State College at 2:00 PM.
