Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe freshman Kevin O'Brien had a career game on Saturday afternoon against FCSAA #7 Miami Dade College (8-4) on the first day of the Florida Colleges Shootout, finishing with 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 from the three point line. The Saints (9-5) led by as many as 20 in the first half, but had to hold on against the surging Sharks for a 62-58 win.
Morris Marshall started the Saints off with 10 points through the first four minutes to stake them to a 12-5 lead and O'Brien picked it up from there, pouring in 16 points over the final 12 minutes of the half to give SF a 41-25 lead at the break.
The second half was all Miami through the first 12 minutes as they trimmed the lead all the way down to 51-50. The Sharks missed a free throw with a chance to tie and on the other end Kevin O'Brien buried a three pointer to push it back to a two score game.
