Gainesville, FL – Pasco Hernando played the Saints tough for the first 20 minutes Tuesday night in Gainesville, but SF was too much in the second half, outscoring the Conquistadors 51-20 in the second half, breaking a 29-29 halftime score to pull away for the 80-49 win.
"We shot the ball very poorly in the first half and Pasco also did a nice job defending us," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We played with more energy in the second half and turned up our defensive pressure."
The second half was all Santa Fe (14-9, 1-2 MFC) as they held Pasco to just 7-for-27 shooting and made 20 of their 39 shots to cruise to the 31 point win
The Saints had 20 assists on 32 made baskets and turned the ball over just seven times.
Morris Marshall led all scorers with 22 points, Ty Birts had 17 points and seven rebounds, Allen Baez had 15, and Michael Sanchez 10 points and eight assists.
"Ty gave us great energy off the bench and played really hard," said Mowry. "He was all over the boards, defended well, made good decisions on when to shoot and when to drive, and picked up three blocks, so his help side defense was there too."
The Saints will now prepare for a big Mid-Florida Conference match-up on Saturday, January 31when the College of Central Florida comes to Gainesville for a 4:00 PM game. Fans can watch the game live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
